Everyone really enjoyed the program.
I was told by one person, 'It was like one big Gay night at the
movies.' I hope your program continues to inspire others the
way it has inspired us!

ALTERNATE
CHANNELS:
LGBT IMAGES ON U.S. TELEVISION,
1950s TO THE PRESENT
From
Gorgeous George to The L Word, Rick & Steve,
and As the World Turns, treat your club, class, or audience
to a fifty-year video history of "queer" TV images!
This
100-minute talk is built around video excerpts from prime-time TV
shows. It traces the evolution of LGBT images in U.S. television from
the 1950s to the present. See Bob Hopes coy queer
ad libs, early comic-relief sissy roles, killer-lesbian
characters of the 1970s and 1980s, the beginnings of casual inclusiveness,
and the cable-only eroticism of Queer as Folk and The L
Word. The talk's length can be adjusted to your schedule.
Drawing
on the eleven years of research that went into my book Alternate
Channels, I outline the history of on-air trends and the backstage
politics that shaped them.
Witness
the good, the bad, and the shocking, including excerpts of The
Jack Benny Show, NYPD, Rowan & Martins Laugh-In,
All in the Family, Soap, Dynasty, L.A. Law,
Roseanne, Friends, Ellen, Will & Grace,
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and shows from the Logo network,
among many others.
Esta
conferencia se puede impartir también en español,
con proyecciones subtituladas.
